I admire the Beatles' love for music and all they've given to it. From what I know, none of the Beatles were classically trained in music. John didn't even know how to play guitar chords when he started out. He just used the banjo chords his mother taught him. In Nowhere Boy, a movie based on John Lennon's life, there is a scene where we get to see Paul met John. I was wondering if that really happened, and it wasn't just something they added into the movie. It did happen, and it all started on the faithful afternoon of July 6, 1975. Paul McCartney had seen John playing with his former group, the Quarrymen at the garden fete of St. Peter's Church Woolton, Liverpool. After the show all the boys started playing parts of songs to impress each other. Paul borrowed a right handed guitar because he was left handed. So because mostly all his friends were right handed, he learned how to play the guitar upside down so he could borrow a guitar from anyone if he ever needed to (this is actually very impressive). Paul began to play 20 Flight Rock by Eddie Cochran and John ended up being impressed, not because Paul could play the guitar upside down, but because he memorized all the words to 20 Flight Rock "and that was like really cool in those days," Paul McCartney recalls in an interview. And this is how Paul McCartney got in the Beatles. In about five years time they would become one of the biggest bands of ALL TIME.
This is probably one of my favorite things ever. When I really think about it, just because this happened the Beatles became the Beatles. It's amazing to think that this little day impacted all of music history. What would have happened if they just passed each other by? If John knew how to play guitar and wasn't impressed with Paul. What would have been the Beatles then? Nothing. Whenever I hear this stories like this one it makes me think of the the little things happening in my life that could lead to anything. It really shows how unpredictable life can be.
